The Connection Between Gratitude and Being Present
Like most people, I sometimes find it difficult to keep my mind focused on the present moment. Although I’m well aware of the benefits of being present, it still seems challenging sometimes.
This quote by Dana Arcuri (author, speaker and wellness coach) has helped me better understand the natural connection between the practice of gratitude and the practice of being present.
The more you are grateful for what you have the more you can live fully in the present. –Dana Arcuri
If I’m truly grateful for what I have and I’m using my mind to dwell on things that are good in my life, then I have no fundamental reason to be mulling over the past or wondering about the future.
During the times when I’m struggling to stay present, I’m unintentionally telling myself that what is occurring in the present moment isn’t good enough. So, I have to search the past for an explanation or worry about whether things will get better in the future.
Based on this new awareness, I’m going to intentionally practice gratitude during those times when I’m struggling to stay present. I’ll bet it acts like an antidote and snaps me right back into NOW.
